Police and ambulance crews were called at 1.40am following the discovery of thirty-nine people dead inside a container at an industrial park in Essex.
All 39 people were declared dead at the scene in Waterglade Industrial Park in Grays. The driver, a 25 year-old man from Northern Ireland, has since been arrested on suspicion of murder.
The HGV is believed to have arrived from Bulgaria and entered the UK at Holyhead in north Wales on Saturday. Access to the industrial park has since been closed and a statement from Grays Police Station is due at 11.30am.
