Solomon Commercials, the UK’s leading manufacturer of rigid refrigerated vehicles, is to create 50 new jobs at the Lancashire-based business.

Established in 1976, Solomon currently employs over 350 people and designs and manufactures refrigerated vehicles working with independent businesses to PLCs, dot-com enterprises and retailers.

The business produces approximately 3,500 vehicles a year from its seven operating departments in Rossendale, Darwen and Bacup, which equates to 240,000 sq. ft of production facilities.

The boost in job numbers has been prompted by a series of contract wins for high-profile retailers and increased demand for vehicles needed for businesses that have expanded home delivery services.

Anthony Clegg, sales director, said, “Over the past two years we have been planning for, and achieving sustainable growth and combined with several contract wins complemented by repeat business, we’re in a fantastic position to expand our workforce.

“Demand for our quality vehicles remains high because we’re driven by a partnership approach with our clients, which is underpinned by our commitment to innovation. In addition, we’re investing in the business, and we now need more people to join us.”
