It is now 12 months since Bristol-based Paul Smart Transport Limited launched an ambitious fundraising activity to raise £250,000 for Cancer Research UK.  Known as ‘Reversing for Cancer’, the initiative’s primary marketing and awareness tool is a new generation Scania XT G 450 8X4 tipper, which has been used to raise awareness for Cancer Research UK by appearing at various truck and county shows around the country.

“I am delighted to report in its first year Reversing for Cancer has raised £80,000,” comments Paul Smart, Managing Director of Paul Smart Transport.  “This has come from various fundraising activities, including our own Gala Ball, which raised almost £20,000, the TipEx Gala Ball, which contributed approximately £12,000 and the sale of 38 adverts on the ‘Reversing for Cancer’ Scania XT, which brought in £40,000 towards the life-saving research of the charity.  The truck also attended last year’s Convoy in the Park and was featured on the Scania stands at Truckfest South West and the Royal Cornwall Show.  We are now looking forward to discussing promotional activities with Scania once again for 2019.”

The vision of Cancer Research UK is to bring forward the day when all cancers are cured. Every day 990 people are diagnosed with cancer in the UK, but with generous donations and exceptional fundraising, they are making incredible progress.

In the 1970s less than a quarter of people survived this heartbreaking disease, but over the last 40 years, cancer survival rates in the UK have doubled. Although this statistic is a monumental success, there is still a way to go and with the support of Paul Smart Transport Ltd. we will help them to get there.

With this partnership, they hope to accelerate progress to see three-quarters of people with cancer surviving the disease by 2034. Their Research Strategy, launched in 2014, outlines how they will achieve their ambitions through a substantial increase in research in priority areas. It’s thanks to the support from the general public, and partners, like Paul Smart Transport Ltd., that the life-saving research can happen and have a real impact on beating cancer once and for all.

There are various events coming up at Cancer Research UK that they need your help with. From World Cancer Day on the 4th February to supporting the ‘Stand Up To Cancer Bake Off’ in March, there are so many opportunities to smash this target and help beat cancer sooner.
