Northgate Vehicle Hire is proud to have supported its customer The Beech Group with the loan of Mercedes Sprinter Crew van as their team vehicle for its cyclist team taking part in the Doddie Weir Charity cycle event, the Doddie 500.

Accompanying a team of cyclists on their charity route from Edinburgh to Cardiff, Northgate’s van carried all the equipment necessary to complete the event, providing back up, support and tracking the riders’ progress en route.

The Doddie 500 is a 500-mile fund-raising cycle ride where the 100 riders cycled from the Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh to the Principality Stadium in Cardiff to deliver the match ball for the Six Nations Wales v Scotland match on the 12 February. Wales won the match 20-17 courtesy of a drop goal by captain Dan Biggar who was presented with the Doddie Weir trophy at the final whistle.

Organised by the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation, the charity supports sufferers of Motor Neurone Disease and was set up by ex-Scottish rugby player Doddie Weir who was diagnosed with suffering from the disease in 2017.

The ride was led by Doddie’s former Scotland and British & Irish Lions teammate Rob Wainwright, with the aim of adding to the £12 million the charity has already raised since its inception in 2017.

Northgate Vehicle Hire sales and marketing director Neil McCrossan said “We have enjoyed working closely with The Beech Group to support their involvement in this fantastic event and to be able to be part of such as brilliant cause. Well done to all of the riders that took part.”

The Beech Group’s MD Phil Jordan said: “Northgate’s van has been extremely valuable in supporting our involvement in the charity cycle ride. These charity events couldn’t happen without support from businesses like Northgate in providing equipment and vehicles to help us on our way.”
