‘Challenge Yourself’ was the task set by 400 fleet, transport operator Mick George Ltd to its employees, management and directors throughout the business, in an attempt to raise money for its two selected charities of the year.
One person who has certainly embraced that notion, is the companies Finance Director Jon Stump, who is seeking to defy all odds, by trekking across Costa Rica, in what will certainly be a daunting coast-to-coast expedition.
Jon won’t be alone on this venture, former England Rugby Captain Lewis Moody MBE, plus 18 others, will be tackling the epic encounter from the Caribbean Sea to the Pacific Ocean. Covering 300km over 8 days, this unique, multi-discipline trial, is set to cover walking, kayaking, mountain biking and rafting across a stunning, yet demanding terrain, pushing the physical and mental limits of all involved.
Journeying from the east to the west coast of Costa Rica the small team will battle jungle and river, volcano and white water, on this ambitious journey. Camping overnight in remote locations, crossing altitudes of over 2,300ms and enduring a vast range of weather conditions from extreme heat and humidity to cold fog and sudden downpours, this is a true expedition through the wilderness of Costa Rica.
Jon will be contributing towards various causes, including Macmillan Cancer Support, the British Heart Foundation and the Lewis Moody Foundation, setting himself an extraordinary £12,000 fundraising objective.
The later charity of the aforementioned, has an independent target of £75,000, which will help those diagnosed with brain tumors, Britain’s biggest cancer killer of children and adults under 40. The funds will be utilised through the award-winning HeadSmart campaign, funding vital research into brain tumor diagnosis, for which an estimated 20,000 children and young people in the UK are living with this life threatening condition.
