The Fortec Distribution Network – widely regarded as one of the most innovative networks in the UK –  has won Team of the Year’ award at this year’s Northamptonshire Logistics Awards which was held The Saint’s rugby ground in Northampton.

The annual awards, which took place this month, celebrate the success of Britain’s transport and logistics sector and was attended by over 150 industry professionals.

There were nine award categories in total with double the number of entries received than the previous year.

Fortec beat off strong competition to win the award with what, according to the judges, was a succinct and powerful award entry about how its Regional Commercial Management team worked closely with Fortec’s member network to ensure the success of the business as a whole. The judging panel comprised of senior representatives of leading logistics companies and award category sponsors.

The Fortec Distribution Network is one of the UK’s leading palletised distribution providers with a well-established network of 84 members around the UK distributing thousands of consignments every day, from a range of industries around the UK and mainland Europe.

The award focused on how following a realignment of the business, Fortec continued to deliver outstanding results with the team going above and beyond the call of duty to help members adjust to the changes and also achieve an uplift in profits.

This year celebrating its 21st anniversary, the Fortec Distribution Network, which is based at Watford Gap, has gone from strength to strength and has enjoyed significant growth every year since it was first established.

Dave Spong, Network Director commented, “Winning this award is testament to the hard work the team put into assisting our members across the network. In the last quarter of 2015 we introduced some difficult but necessary new rules across the network to improve safety, including limiting pallet weights to under 750kg and eliminating freight over 3m in length.

“The RCM team had to ensure that each of our members were able to adhere to this without losing customers, by working together as a team. They were extremely successful in doing so, and that’s been clearly recognised by the award we won. I’m delighted.”

Mark Spence, Compliance and Quality Audit Manager at Fortec (pictured), was at the event to collect the award on behalf of the company. Mark sits on the Northampton Logistics Forum committee, which represents 115 logistics companies around the UK, so was familiar with the annual event and encouraged Fortec to enter the awards back in March.

Tony Bellott, Chair of the Northamptonshire Logistics Forum, said: “A huge congratulations to all our finalists and winners – testament to the thriving logistics sector we have here in Northamptonshire.”
