In response to the government’s announcement of a series of infrastructure initiatives to encourage sustainable travel in Northern Ireland, Seamus Leheny, Policy Manager for Northern Ireland at FTA, comments:

“FTA and its members welcome the announcement by Infrastructure Minister Nichola Mallon and her department to increase sustainable transport in urban areas; the plans have the potential to reduce road congestion, enable social distancing and improve air quality significantly. However, it is important the needs of logistics are considered in the plans; drivers of goods vehicles must have sufficient access to town centres and cities to deliver the goods the supermarkets, shops, restaurants, bars and cafes all need to operate; access for waste services must also be maintained. As the business organisation representing the logistics sector, we look forward to working with government to develop an infrastructure plan that benefits the community, the environment, businesses and logistics alike.”
