Customs Declaration Service (CDS) online service will not be available from Saturday 9th April 2022 9:30pm until 7:30am on Sunday 10th April 2022

During this time you will not be able to:

  • submit customs declarations
  • populate goods movement reference numbers

Due to the maintenance on the Customs Declaration Service Saturday 9th April 2022 9:30pm until 7:30am on Sunday 10th April 2022 the following Goods Vehicle Movement Service (GVMS) actions linked to CDS might be affected:

  • create or update a goods movement reference (GMR) — goods movement references will go to a ‘non-finalisable’ state if a Customs Declaration Service declaration is being attached during this maintenance
  • check-in goods movement references (GMRs) (outbound) — goods movement references with Customs Declaration Service declarations will go to a ‘controlled’ state during this maintenance and when the maintenance ends:
    • queued messages will be processed
    • the risking response may change from ‘controlled’ to ‘release’
  • embark goods movement reference (outbound) — departure messages will be queued and will be processed and updated when the maintenance ends
  • embark goods movement reference (inbound) — goods movement references with Customs Declaration Service declarations will go to a ‘controlled’ state and when the maintenance ends:
    • queued messages will be processed
    • the risking response may change from ‘controlled’ to ‘release’

During the period of downtime, carriers should continue to collect, validate and embark goods movement references for crossings.

Do not turn off validation during this period of downtime. Goods movement references remain mandatory for freight movements using this service. Hauliers without a valid goods movement reference should be turned away.

The core services of the goods vehicle movement service will be available. You will still be able to enter and validate New Computerised Transit System (NCTS) and Customs Handling of Import and Export Freight (CHIEF) declarations to get a goods movement reference during the scheduled maintenance.
