The Isle of Wight’s largest independent freight carrier, Steve Porter Transport, is celebrating 30 years as the Isle of Wight’s sole agent for BOC gases.

In the past three decades Steve Porter has safely delivered almost one million gas cylinders to Island based businesses, supporting a wide number of industries from hospitality through to manufacturing and medical.

Steve Porter Transport Managing Director, Malcolm Gibson, said:

“As the only licensed operator able to bring BOC gases to the Island we are responsible for the storage, sales and distribution of Industrial, Medical and Cellar gases across the Island. A wide range of businesses are heavily reliant on this supply, and we pride ourselves on a timely provision of this vital service.

“We typically handle in the region 3,000 cylinders per month and supply all of the Islands bars and restaurants, through to many engineering firms and the life critical requirements of the Island’s hospital. This volume has steadily increased over the years, indeed we have seen a 20% rise in deliveries over the last year alone.”

The recent spike in volume has lead to further investment in the Steve Porter fleet, with specially adapted vehicles, designed for the safe delivery of this hazardous cargo. The firm also operates a specialist Cellar Gas vehicle, which services the pub, restaurant and hospitality trades.

The BOC operation is a division of Steve Porter Transport, with its own team operating from the firms’ Newport depot.
