Matalan adds all 222 stores to the DPD pickup network

Leading family clothing and home retailer Matalan is the latest big name brand to sign-up for the DPD Pickup parcel shop network, reinforcing its commitment to customer service and convenience.

Matalan have rolled out the DPD Pickup service to all its 222 stores nationwide, which provide customers with convenient locations, late night opening and free parking, making them ideal parcel collection points.

Shane Quigley, Matalan’s Chief Customer Officer added: “Making life easier for families is at the heart of everything we do and we continue to work tirelessly to introduce new initiatives that do just this. We’re excited to roll out our partnership with DPD in time for the busy Christmas period for customers.”

As a result, DPD confirmed that it expects its current DPD Pickup network of 2,500 shops to increase to more than 2,800 by Christmas, with more outlets coming online in the New Year.

The UK’s favourite parcel delivery company is expecting an overall increase in Christmas parcel volumes of more than 20% compared to last year, and DPD Pickup will play a vital role in helping ensure customers get their parcels delivered safely and securely every time.

DPD Pickup launched in June 2015 with the aim of transforming the parcel shop experience by truly integrating it into the purchasing and delivery processes and offering customers a greatly improved customer service. DPD Pickup is one of the ‘in-flight’ options available in DPD’s Predict text and email notifications, which are sent ahead of a scheduled home delivery. So if customers aren’t going to be at home they can divert their delivery to a DPD Pickup point for collection at a time that suits them.

DPD’s CEO Dwain McDonald commented: “Matalan is a great family favourite and a fantastic brand. I’m absolutely delighted to be partnering with them. Our aim is to create a completely different type of parcel shop experience with big branded stores, in convenient locations, with free parking. It isn’t just about genuinely differentiating ourselves from other carriers. Matalan stores offer a really secure environment for our parcels and a great experience for our customers. Our data shows us that this is the type of experience parcel recipients will choose over and over again.

“If our customers aren’t at home they get to choose how their parcel is delivered from a fantastic range of ‘in-flight’ options, via their smartphone or the Your DPD app. I want them to look at DPD Pickup as an option, see the type of stores we can re-route their parcel too and think “wow, that’s perfect”, because they are accessible, safe environments provided by known brands.”

DPD Pickup is one of a range of new innovative services created by DPD. In May this year, the firm launched the Your DPDapp which enables customers to set their own delivery preferences including the ability to request that drivers always avoid certain times of the day, such as the school run. The app was followed in July by DPD Precise which allows customers toselect their own, exact one-hour delivery slot on the day of their choosing.
